Over 40 years of experience in underground construction (tunnelling and mining):

Since May 2015, Knut has been the owner and President of K. Garshol-Rock Engineering Ltd, and is currently involved with customers in Hong Kong, USA, Qatar and Scandinavia. The 5 year supervision of grouting for the HATS2A project in Hong Kong was finished in September 2014 with last breakthrough in the 20 km sub-sea tunnel at 150 m below sea level.

K. Garshol worked his first 13 years for a tunneling contractor in Norway covering about 200 km of tunnel excavation. Next, CEO and Partner for a specialist contractor (4 years) and then CEO for geo-consulting company Dr. O.T. Blindheim (4 years). Then came design control and construction supervision for several millions of m3 of cavern excavation in Saudi Arabia (4 years). After this, he worked 15 years for BASF Underground Construction in management and technical sales; his main assignment being as Director for Latin America.

Achievements: -Responsible for crossing the regional shear zone in the twin tube Oslo Tunnel at 45 m below sea level, one tube using pre-excavation grouting, the other by ground freezing. -Problem solving at the Arrowhead East project in California using colloidal silica.

He has published many papers and conference presentations. Two grouting related papers received awards (one in the USA and one in Hong Kong). He has also published a handbook on pre-excavation grouting in hard rock tunneling that has been revised, republished and has been distributed internationally.
