Biography: 

Salvatore Antonio Biancardo is Assistant Professor in “I-BIM: Infrastructure Building Information Modeling” (PhD Programme in Civil Systems Engineering) and in “Highways, Railways and Airports Engineering” (Bachelor Degree Programme in Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering) at the University of Naples Federico II, Italy.

Dr. Biancardo earned the Master of Science degree in Civil and Transportation Engineering in 2012 and European Ph.D. in Road Infrastructure and Transportation Systems in 2016.

Dr. Biancardo was Chairman of the Session 21 on “I-BIM Infrastructure Building Information Modeling” during TIS Rome 2017 - The International Congress on Transport Infrastructure and Systems and of the Session 4 on “Road safety and human factors” during ICTTE Belgrade 2018 – The International Conferences on Traffic and Transport Engineering.

Dr. Biancardo is Editorial Board Member of the International Journal for Traffic and Transport Engineering.

Dr. Biancardo is Member of the Trasportation Research Board Standing Committees on “Strategic Management” (ABC10), “Geospatial Data Acquisition Technologies” (AFB80), “Landscape and Environmental Design” (AFB40), Young Member of the A.I.I.T. Italian Association for Traffic and Transport Engineering, Young Member of the S.I.I.V. Italian Academic Association on Road Infrastructures.

Dr. Biancardo is Coordinator of the Erasmus+ Bilateral Agreement 2014/2021 between the University of Naples and, respectively, the Politécnico de Viseu and the University of Zagreb. Dr. Biancardo is Coordination of the International Agreement between the Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering and the Smart Transportation Applications and Research (STAR) Laboratory, University of Washington, Seattle (USA).

Dr. Biancardo was Visiting Scholars at the University of Washington, Seattle (Sept. 2014-Mar. 2015; Aug. 2015-Feb. 2016) leading the Safety Research Group of the Smart Transportation Applications and Research (STAR) Laboratory, and at the University of Coimbra, Portugal (May 2015 -Jul 2015).

Dr. Biancardo was awarded in 2015 for: Top Place Honor of The Oregon ITE’s 24th Annual Bill Kloos Traffic Bowl, Portland, Oregon USA.; Third Place Winner Poster Contest, PacTrans Region 10 Student Transportation Conference 2015, Seattle (WA), USA.

Dr. Biancardo is the author/co-author of more than 10 refereed journal/conference publications. Mr. Biancardo's research interests include I-BIM, road safety, study of driver speed behavior, operating speed prediction models, injurious crashes prediction models, design consistency evaluation, maintenance of rural roads, and science of civil engineering.
