PAST EVENTS
The Foundation and the organizer managed to invite an international panel of thirteen very high level lecturers both from the academic and corporate world.
Training Session in Riyadh, Safe Operation in Railway The Ministry of Transport of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia organized a “Seminar for Continuous professional Education” on “Safe Operation of Underground Transportation Infrastructure” .
The objective of the Seminar was to provide an introduction to the state of the art for a safe use of underground transportation infrastructures with an emphasis on railway and road tunnels systems.
Five worldwide experts delivered the lectures detailed in the enclosed programme; three of them were coming from Foundation Sister Organizations:
The Foundation thanks the lecturers, - L. to R. Mr. F. Amberg (ITA), Martin Muncke (UIC), Pierre Schmitz (PIARC), Louis Ruzzi (IRF) and Peter Reinke (ITA-COSUF) - of the Riyadh training session for their generous donation.
It is important to notice that it was the first time these four major organizations participate together to such an event The lectures were followed by a very lively discussion with the participants; the final comments were very positive; the participants encouraged the organizers to plan other and longer events on the same topic and also on the Safety at the level of Design, Construction and Maintenance through adapted case studies.
Around 100 delegates working in the hydro power, irrigation and transportation sectors from all over India attended the course. The course was delivered by Dr Donald Lamont and Mr Martin Vogel, Animateur and vice-Animateur respectively, of ITA WG5.
December 14, 2011 - The training session went well. The total number of participants was 120 including 5 guest speakers and 9 Norton university staff and management. In general, our participants were satisfied with the course especially those who have knowledge related to Geotechnical Engineering.
December 9-10, 2011. The Nepal Tunnelling Association (NTA) and ITACET Foundation jointly organised 2-day training program on "Sprayed concrete (shotcrete) in tunnelling under Himalayan Conditions" on 9-10 December 2011 in Kathmandu, Nepal.
The training program and internationally renowned speakers were organised by ITACET Foundation to conduct this training. Lecturers were: Mr. Olivier Vion (ITA-Executive Director of ITA), Dr. Gustav Bracher (ITA-Industry representative and Sika) and Dr. Oscar Marazzini (Sika), Mr. Volker Wetzig (General Manager–Hagerbach Test Gallery), Mr. Felix Amberg (ITACET Foundation), Dr. Krishna Panthi (NTNU) , Mr. Mukhopadhyay (Tam Normet), Mr. Enrico Dal Negro (MAPEI), Mr. Jaymes Khell (BASF) and Dr. Harald Wegner (Expert to ITA Executive Council).
The main objective of this training was to train Engineers, Geologists and tunnel technician working in field of tunnelling on complete technical and practical aspects of sprayed concrete. Other objectives were:
All participants benefited to upgrade their knowledge covering all technical and practical aspects of sprayed concrete and followed state of art technology by NTA highly appreciated to Royal Norwegian Embassy and Normet, India for their financial support to organise this training successfully.
November 12 – 13, 2011 - The Seminar for Continuing Education on Safety Operation in Metro and Road Tunnels was organized in Shanghai by TONGJI University, Shanghai Society for Civil Engineering (SSCE) and the ITACET Foundation.
Four lecturers from the ITACET Foundation network, namely, MM. Felix Amberg, Amberg Group Amberg Engineering Ltd., Niels Peter Høj, HOJ Consulting GmbH, Dr Peter Reinke, HBI Haerter Consulting engineers and Henry A. Russell Jr. P.E. , Principal Professional Associate of PB Americas Inc. gave 15 lectures during the two days of the seminar. The seminar was attended by more than 100 participants coming from Clients, Universities, Designers, Consultants and Operators, etc. These participant were very active asking many interesting and detailed questions to the lecturers; looking to the evaluation forms they filled up at the end of the seminar, it was clear that the participants appreciated the quality of the lectures as well as the time devoted to exchanges. This kind of “Seminar for Continuing Education” will be repeated in the future in Shanghai and in other major Cities in China; for 2012, it will be devoted to Risk Management and Safety Issues in Design, Construction, Operation and Maintenance in Tunnelling and Underground Space; it will last 5 days including increased exchanges during Round Tables.

July 14 - 15, 2011. The two days seminar co-organised by the Research Institute for Symbolic Computation (RISC) , Softwarepark Hagenberg and the ITACET Foundation hosted more than fourty participants. In the seminar, aspects of various applications for Beside the presentations also practical training on the application of the software was part of the 2-day seminar. The Foundation is already looking forward to organize the second edition to be held in 2012.
May 20 – 21, 2011 At the occasion of the ITA-AITES World tunnel congress in Helsinki, ITA-AITES and the ITACET Foundation, together with the Finnish Tunnelling association organized a very fruitful two days training session aimed at young professionals of the tunneling industry. The program of the two days training session, was prepared by the ITACET committee in coordination with the Finnish Tunnelling Association. The course was divided in two parts. During the first part the attendees followed a total of eleven hours of classes, given by fourteen high profile speakers, both from the academic and corporate world, from the ITA-AITES Network. Main themes were:
![]() All courses where followed by lively and open discussion on the presented topic. These interaction between the lecturers ad the attendees produce very interesting insight on specific points of the presented subject.
This underground work was made possible by the involvement of the contractor Lemminkainen. With more than 50 participants from 20 different countries the training session held during the WTC11 was a great success The Foundation is looking forward the next planned training session in Austria, China and Cambodia and others, and is already planning the next WTC12 training session, which will be held in Bangkok on the main topic “Tunelling in Urban Areas”, Thaïland, from 18-23 May 2012. February 27 - 28 2011 - At the request of the “The Institute of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) and Tunneling & Underground Space Technical Division(TUSTD)” the Foundation prepared a two days training session on "Principles of Tunnel Design”.
More than sixty persons attended the training session, both from the academical and corporate world, Including two young engineers, VŨ MINH TUẤN, MSc from Vietnam and Dr. Lim Soktay from Cambodia, invited by the Foundation.

November 18 – 19, 2010 - At the request of the Thailand Underground & Tunnelling Group the Foundation prepared a two days training session on "Principles of Tunnel Design and Construction".
The Foundation invited two young engineers, one from Laos, one from Myanmar, covering their travel and accomodation expenses. The organizer, TUTG offered them the seminar subscription fees. October 22, 2010 - At the request of the Association of Tunnels and Underground Space (AATES), the Foundation organized a one day seminar on "Construction Methods for Tunnelling".
Program:
More than 160 attendees joined this conference.
The two days program was prepared in coordination with the ITA-CET Committee and the ITA-AITES Working group "Immersed and floating tunnels" . This training session allowed 4 speakers, namely, M. Chrisian Ingerslev (coordinator of this event) , MM. Jon Baber, Hans De Wit and Michael Tonnesen to provide 16 lectures to the participants. The Foundation together with the 
The Seminar, co organized with the ITACET Foundation in Riyadh on 25-26 March 2012, gathered more than 80 participants representing Consulting Engineers, Construction companies, Operators, Municipalities and Ministries coming mostly from Saudi Arabia and Middle East countries.

146 participants from Nepal, India, Bhutan and China attended the training. All participants were satisfied from this training and expected more such training in near future
The objective was to provide a general overview to the safe use and operation of metro and road tunnel systems followed by more in-depth sessions on operation (management structure and organization for emergency situations), monitoring technology, fire control (detection, passive and active fire fighting and mitigation) and research (recent research about safety in operation).
At the occasion of this seminar the organizer represented by Mr. Bai Yun (ITA-AITES VIce President) and M. Fu De Ming granted a generous donation to the Foundation.
